Article On How To Start A Business By Adepeju Jaiyeoba
Many times when people ask me how to start a business or an organisation, I simply tell them just start! Just do it!! Take some steps, anything to show movements and progression. Today, I’m sharing three practical ways to actually start your business or organisation:
1. Do Your Research: In starting an organisation, you must at least be informed on the basics of what you want to do. I personally have a penchant for working in areas I have no background or educational experience in. That’s what excites me. But despite this excitement, I do a lot of reading, google research, interviews and online courses around the area I am venturing.
2. Always Map Out Options: Don’t count on the fact that people who exist in the field would be ready to provide information for you to be like them or even be greater than them. Always have a variety of ways to get the information you need without relying so much on your competitor to provide you with information. Trust me, it doesn’t matter whether you are communicating with a competitor in an entirely different country or timezone.
3. Study Competitors And Develop An Area Or Market They Aren’t Dealing With Or Focused On: First mover advantage will be a plus. If they are offering a product, buy it and use it. That personal user experience will help you draw up new ways and models. If they are providing a service, sign up for it. I know of someone who wanted to open a crèche and signed up her baby at a competitor’s crèche for a term just to study their operation. She eventually set up her own crèche which was far better than that of her competitor. Remember that the rule is innovate or go home!
As a last word, don’t forget to believe in yourself. As it’s often said, there are people less qualified than you doing the things you want to do, simply because they decided to believe in themselves.
Have a great day everyone.
